Facebook, Google account or Twitter).\u00a0 Take a minute to check if you have your device password protected in case someone else tries to use it and which third party apps currently have access to your information. [see <a title=\"Facebook settings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/settings\/?tab=applications\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook app settings<\/a>,\u00a0 <a title=\"Google issued sub tokens\" href=\"https:\/\/accounts.google.com\/IssuedAuthSubTokens \" target=\"_blank\">Google account settings<\/a> and <a title=\"Twitter settings for apps\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/settings\/applications\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter settings<\/a> and information on <a title=\"Connecting or revoking third party applications\" href=\"https:\/\/support.twitter.com\/articles\/76052-connecting-or-revoking-third-party-applications\" target=\"_blank\">revoking access to third party apps<\/a> ]<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISCOVER:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Who are you online? \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have you considered that your identity online is actually a spectrum ranging from <strong>anonymous &gt; pseudonymous<\/strong> (across multiple sites) <strong>&gt; self-asserted &gt; socially validated<\/strong> (by friends and followers) <strong>&gt; officially verified<\/strong>?\u00a0 [see the excellent post from @identitywoman for <a title=\"Identity Spectrum blogpost\" href=\"http:\/\/www.identitywoman.net\/the-identity-spectrum \" target=\"_blank\">definitions<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>Using a pseudonym or anonymous identity online may breach the terms of service of some social media channels (eg. <a title=\"Google real names policy\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/plus\/answer\/1228271?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Google+ real names policy<\/a>\u00a0 and Facebook identity for page administrators)<\/li>\n<li>LinkedIn is a popular app for professional connections see <a title=\"Jan Holmquist - LinkedIn profile\" href=\"http:\/\/dk.linkedin.com\/in\/janholmquist\" target=\"_blank\">Jan<\/a> and <a title=\"Mylee Joseph - LinkedIn profile\" href=\"http:\/\/au.linkedin.com\/pub\/mylee-joseph\/4\/1a4\/774\" target=\"_blank\">Mylee<\/a>\u00a0 as examples [Android and iOS <a title=\"LinkedIn website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/mobile\" target=\"_blank\">apps available<\/a> ]<\/li>\n<li>If you manage a page for your library or an organisation you might find the <a title=\"Facebook pages manager app\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/261725130600682\/ \" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Pages Manager app<\/a> useful<\/li>\n<li>Facebook apps are available for both <a title=\"Google play - Facebook app\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/developer?id=Facebook&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Android &#8211; Facebook<\/a>\u00a0 and <a title=\"IOS Facebook app\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/appcenter\/fbiphone\" target=\"_blank\">iPhone &#8211; Facebook<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>EXPLORE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>What information is being collected while you\u2019re online?<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many apps collect information from users and there should be a privacy policy or terms and conditions statement available.\u00a0 Often these statements are on an associated website (eg. <a title=\"Medicare app privacy notice\" href=\"http:\/\/www.humanservices.gov.au\/customer\/information\/privacy-notice-for-express-plus-medicare-mobile-app\" target=\"_blank\">Medicare App\u00a0<\/a> )<\/li>\n<li>What information do you share when you search and interact online?\u00a0 Phil Bradley gives a <a title=\"Phil Bradley blog post\" href=\"http:\/\/philbradley.typepad.com\/phil_bradleys_weblog\/2013\/06\/staying-private-and-protected-online.html\" target=\"_blank\">good overview<\/a> of the issues and some alternative tools.<\/li>\n<li>Protecting Your Privacy \u2013 A Resource Guide also <a title=\"Protecting your privacy blog post\" href=\"http:\/\/librarianshipwreck.wordpress.com\/2013\/06\/11\/its-only-futile-if-you-just-sit-there-a-resource-guide-for-protecting-your-privacy\/\" target=\"_blank\">lists alternative tools<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>THINKING POINTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you keep your personal and professional identities online completely separate?<\/li>\n<li>Do you deliberately manage your personal brand \/ professional identity?<\/li>\n<li>If a prospective employer asked you to demonstrate your skills and experience in using social media could you point to professional presences online?<\/li>\n<li>Do you draw your online identities or the multiple identities of your organisation together via a blog \/ website or an aggregating tool like <a title=\"Rebelmouse - Harvard University\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rebelmouse.com\/HarvardU\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rebelmouse<\/a> , <a title=\"Vizify website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vizify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vizify<\/a>\u00a0 or the Slideshare <a title=\"Slideshare - UN DESA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/undesa\" target=\"_blank\">network channels of organisations like United Nations DESA<\/a> ?<\/li>\n<li>Can your clients log into your library website or apps using their online identities?\u00a0 (eg.
